At Mission Central, it all starts with compassion. We care deeply for our neighbors and are ready to work tirelessly to help alleviate the suffering that poverty can bring – but we need your help. When you share your time or gifts with Mission Central, you’re part of team that is focused on providing dignified, caring services to our community.

OPEN-MINDEDNESS

The quality of being willing to consider ideas and opinions that are new or different than your own.

There are many paths that lead to poverty, and many paths that lead out of poverty. At Mission Central, we’re not here to judge the paths taken, but to provide good maps and guidance for the journey ahead. Our leadership and volunteers are focused on our mission of empowerment and know that an open mind allows us listen closely to our neighbors and respond to the needs they share.

RESPECT

Regard for the rights, wishes, feelings, or traditions of others.

It’s the most basic of human dignities, but one that is often overlooked for those living in poverty. At Mission Central, we hold respect for our guests, students, customers, volunteers, and supporters in the highest regard.

EMPOWERMENT

The process of becoming stronger and more confident, especially in controlling one’s life.

We once asked a group of students on a tour of Mission Central what they thought the word empowerment meant. An answer that came from the back seemed the perfect answer: “to help someone get their power back.”

Empowerment is the heart of our mission. We are here to help you get your power back. By sharing groceries, we give you the power to feed your family, so you can use limited funds to tend to other urgent priorities. By providing you with connections to community resources, we give you the power to find help you need to address a crisis. By offering tutoring and career guidance, we give your family the power to pursue your dreams.
